Description
Reproduction Union Army mix of personal items: Lantern, Plate, Fork/Knife/Spoon, Toothbrush, Sewing Kit, Shaving Soap, Tooth Powder, Soap, Cup, Mirror, and Shaving Brush. A mixture of everything. All used to some extent.I did classroom demonstrations and re-enactments for about 25 years and kept my gear and uniform in good shape with some wear and tear. It is time to sell it all, so see my other auctions to totally outfit and equip yourself into the 20th Maine (or pretty much any other Union infantry regiment). This also allows you to avoid the abuse heaped on newbies and their straight-from-the-sutler uniform and equipment. Ask if you have any questions. Sorry, due to massive increases in shipping costs, I can no longer combine shipping.
People also asked for condition specifics: the lantern is tin (I think) and hold a candle for night use, just close it to snuff it out. The plate is a plate. Not sure of the metal. About 9 or 10 inches in diameter. The spork combo slides together and could use a cleaning. I used it for everything to eating to cutting sugar cones to carving out shaving soap. the toothbrush is wood and I THINK the bristles are horsehair - Don't quote me on the bristles part. the sewing kit (housewife) is just some needles, maybe some thread and some extra buttons. Students are always excited when I hold up the little green folded cloth and say, "And this is a housewife." Then I open it and tell them it is a sewing kit. Their disappointment fills the room. I'm not sure what they are hoping for. The shaving soap is partially used, but go ahead and use it again. Carve off a few thin slices and mix it with water. The tooth powder has been used a bit. It basically tastes like baking soda, which it very well might be. I believe the cup is 22 ounces - been used to cook (stay at VERY LOW heat), drink, and shave out of. I'd wash the heck out of it before you decide to drink Gatorade out of it. The mirror is made of cheap wood - maybe even some sort of poly. Looks only. I can't remember the makeup of the shaving brush, but I've shaved with it. It works. Nothing here is mint. I did a few hundred demonstrations for school kids and more than a few re-enactments. This stuff has been to Gettysburg (Not the actual battle or the movie, but you get the idea) so there is some wear and tear, and the brass will always have a hint of brass polish. You might notice that I mention brass polish a lot - If you do re-enactments, you will become very familiar with polishing.
