This appx 9"x12" framed collectible is part of an RIAA Limited Edition series.  If you see another framed record in the photos, that 2nd one was sold. This auction is for HOUND DOG only.    UNIQUE in that this is the FIRST of the 90 limited series.
The frame looks virtually new: in fact, the plexiglas is still covered with its protective film, which the new owner gets to remove.  We cannot guarantee that its scratch-free, after storage in an estate box, but the film helps to keep the plexiglass shiny.  That protective film gives the photos a foggy look.  The collectible record and paperwork will be much clearer when it is removed.

Early Elvis made Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller's "(You Ain't Nothin' But A) HOUND DOG" a major hit in 1956. It was this song that created the controversy when Elvis performed his then-scandalous gyrations on live television.  One of the first songs r
ecorded with RCA (after the Sun Studio recordings), HOUND DOG went on to Platinum Sales status, selling more than 1 million copies.  This is not automatic: the record company has to apply to the RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America. Hound Dog was the "B" side of "DON'T BE CRUEL," another Fifties hit song that also reached platinum status, making it a "Double-Sided" Hit Single.
The term “double-sided hit” has no meaning in the current digital music age. It was a phenomenon of the vinyl record era of the past century, when an artist’s “single” record release actually was a “double” release.
The two back-to-back Presley recordings eventually spent an incredible 10 weeks together in the chart’s top 10, shifting between spots #1 and #2.
During his career, Presley had 50 two-sided hits on Billboard’s Top/Hot 100 chart. None of the other 49 even came close to the back-to-back chart success of “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” It was then, and will remain, the biggest double-sided hit single record in the history of recorded music.
Elvis now ranks third in the roster of Artists with the most single certifications: 89 (54 gold, 27 platinum, 8 multi-platinum).  He reigned Number One for most of the Twentieth Century and into the 21st Century, until Rihanna surpassed him in 2017, with Taylor Swift passing him in 2018 (and now creeping up on Rihanna!).  But since the female artists have digital recordings in the mix, Elvis still remains Number One on pressed vinyl recordings.

--FYI: it is not unusual for sterling charms to be unmarked from this era: many charms came unmarked on display sales cards that had the maker and metal info; as well as jewelry items under a certain weight did not have to be hallmarked.
