Private Andrew Jackson Johnson was a soldier in the Confederate States Army. As you read his story, you will march, walk, eat, sleep, and fight with this soldier. You will know the horror of killing the man in front of you just to have another step up and try to take your life.
After fighting and darkness descends, you will hear the screams of the dying as they lay on the bloody battlefield. However, you cannot assist the wounded until the battle ends and one side retreats. In many conflicts, this took days, and the injured slowly died in the most agonizing way.
Andrew fought in some of the bloodiest battles recorded in the Civil War. He describes them in detail. This man fought for four years before being shot. He was home recuperating when the south surrendered.
